Known as the founder of Haitian market painting, Laurent Casimir composed vibrant scenes full of merchants and shoppers. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Casimir attended Le Centre d'Art d'Haiti and then the Foyer des Arts Plastiques in Port-au-Prince . There he learned from the first generation of Haitian masters, including his friend Dieudonné Cédor , a prominent modern painter who co-founded the school. Casimir's works are known for their faux-naïve style and rich reds, oranges and yellows.
The work is painted on canvas and pasted on cardboard.
