编号 85192205
编号 85192205
Stunning, medium-sized six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) adorned with a Kanô School-style painting. The artwork depicts a dense pine tree forest 松 (matsu) set against a luminous gold leaf backdrop. An impressive large red sun rises behind the intricate web of branches. The forest is teeming with ancient, gnarled trees whose trunks are covered in moss, forming a verdant canopy with occasional branches protruding through. The ground adorned with speckled gold clouds.
In Japanese culture, the evergreen pine tree is known to represent longevity, good fortune and steadfastness. It is commonly linked with virtue and long life, even immortality.
The panels are mounted by two brocade silk borders, a thin white one, and a broad greyish blue one. Protected by a black lacquer wooden frame and the backside covered by decorative silk with a charming pattern.
Period: Japan – 19th century (Late Edo period/Early Meiji period).
The protective frame was expertly and expensively refurbished at a later (more recent) date in Japan. A highly skilled craftsmanship that requires a lot of expertise and knowledge.
Dimensions:
Total width: 282.2 cm (2 x 48.3 cm, 4 x 46.4 cm); Height: 125 cm.
Given its age (approximately 120-220 years old), this piece is in remarkably good condition. It exhibits wear consistent with its age and some restoration work, such as the reapplication of thin gold leaf along the hinges. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition reference.
The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art.
When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
