Abraham Johannes Couwenberg (1806-1844) - Panoramic view on the beach near Scheveningen

A.J. Couwenberg was born in Delft in 1806. At the age of 15 he already exhibited at an exhibition in The Hague, where he lived and worked from 1821. He mainly painted panoramas of summer and winter landscapes that are characterized by imposing Dutch cloudy skies. Couwenberg's style is a combination of the topographical tradition of the 18th century and the narrative depictions of Romanticism. From 1834 the artist has taught as a head teacher at the drawing academy in Arnhem. The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam has two paintings by Couwenberg in its collection.
