The history of Château Pontet-Canet, Grand Cru Classé de Pauillac , begins in the 18th century, when Jean-François de Pontet , grand equerry of the king who became governor of Médoc, brought together a few plots of Pauillac to produce his wine. His descendants acquired vineyards near the place called Canet . After belonging to the Cruse family for 110 years, Pontet-Canet is today owned by Guy Tesseron , Cognac producer. The 80 hectares of vines are located to the south of the prestigious Château Mouton Rothschild and Château d'Armailhac, on ridges of Garonne gravel. The vineyard's grape varieties are made up of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
