福原五岳 Fukuhara Gogaku (1730-1799)
Literary painter of the mid-Edo period. Went to Kyoto and studied under Ike no Taiga. He is reputed to be the most skilled in the Taiga school. Moved to Osaka, promoted the Taiga style and played a role in the rise of the Osaka art world. He is regarded as one of the best painters of figures since Sakaki Hyakusen, and also specialized in landscapes.
