Fine fetish figure of the Bakongo people livng in Congo. Now in my personal Dutch collection. Material: wood, glass, textile, kaolin, resin. Minkisi figure. Certain sculptures were held by clan leaders. Ritual specialists retained the important figures or relics, but a variety of lesser minkisis made by carvers, sanctified and used by the ngangas, were available to anyone who could afford them (Marc Felix). The figure has a bag of magical stuff on the back.
