Founded in the 1850s, Schatz was the leading manufacturer of classic ship’s clocks, continuing to make mechanical chiming movements until 1985, production later being taken over by Altitude clocks and Delite in Denmark.
This fine example of the top-of-the-range Royal Mariner ship's clock was produced in Germany after reunification (post 1992). It is in used, but excellent (essentially near-mint) condition. The clock shows fine workmanship with two eight-day mechanical movements, one each for clock and chimes. It strikes the ship's bell 4-hour-watch sequence marked by progressive cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. Chimes can be switched off using the lever at III (photo #21). The white face is in fine condition with only very light patina. The lacquered brass housing is also in excellent condition with only a few minor blemishes (photos). There are no dents or cracks. The door is secured by brass scuttle-clamps. The facet-cut glass-port is clean and intact.
The clock runs and strikes correctly. The time can be regulated using the screw at XII. The clock has run for 8 days before being put up for sale. Complete with key and copy of Schatz instruction leaflet. The clock will be stabilized during transport. On receipt, the clock and chimes are prepared by turning the screw on the back anticlockwise (see photos #26-28).
A rare opportunity to own one of these top-line instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship. This superb item is in particularly fine condition.
I pack with great care (see reviews) and send securely with insurance.
