14k gold plated A.L.D Dennison open face pocket watch. The watch has a Swiss manual winding and pin key set movement with a white enamel dial, gold hands and sub second blued steel hand. The movement is signed Cyrus GT Suisse, outer lid is marked with A.L.D (Aaron Lufkin Dennison) sun, moon and star images trademark and case number 24241, the same case number marked on a protective inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. Some signs of wear and discolouration in places.
AARON LUFKIN DENNISON (1812-1895)
American born A. L. Dennison began his pioneering career in the watch industry by founding Waltham Watch Company. The company grew to become the largest watch manufacturer in the U.S.A at the time.
In 1871, A.L.D moved to England and after a short time in London he decided to setup home in Birmingham. A.L.D found a niche in the market for high-quality watch cases produced in large numbers and patented many designs for air and watertight cases.
