Vines have been growing on the hillsides of Bligny for centuries, producing a still, natural Champagne wine. At the beginning of the 19th century, Baron de Cachard (ennobled by Louis XVIII) acquired the estate and gave the land a new and valuable viticultural boost, earning him the nickname of ‘Gentilhomme Vigneron’. Baron de Cachard had been aware of the excellent reputation that the region's wines had once enjoyed. He had also acquired the vineyards of the former Priory of Sainte-Eulalie, founded in the village around the year 1000. These plantations and acquisitions form the current vineyard of Château de Bligny.
