DESCRIPTION
Wine Indigenus is an innovative wine project that originates in Terras de Mogadouro, a name perfectly given to the first wine that was born here.
The vineyards are part of the demarcated region of Trás-os-Montes, a sub-region of the Planalto Mirandês, where the history of vineyard planting and wine production, although forgotten in time, has secular origins dating back to Roman and pre-Roman times.
The pioneer of this project is Cristiano Pires who, with encouragement from his father Manuel Pires, leveraged this family project. This project was joined by Rute Gonçalves who, although born in Lisbon, has her family roots in Mogadouro. Initially a nurse by profession in the United Kingdom, now a trained winemaker for the project, she directs the oenology, guided by the consultancy of the experienced oenologist Francisco Gonçalves.
It was the two young people's connection with their origins that drove the desire to reproduce the essence of the land itself in wines, through the planting of a diversity of native and also foreign grape varieties, which today make up the 50ha of vineyards that produce Terras de wines. Mogadouro.
The grape varieties have demonstrated perfect adaptation to 800 meters of altitude, to granite soils with patches of schist and to the unique mesoclimate, typical of the sub-region, which has large thermal amplitudes, with almost zero rainfall during the active phase of the vine's vegetative cycle, which inhibits the appearance of cryptogamous diseases and therefore allows practically organic viticulture.
These factors, combined with the technology and equipment available at the winery, have allowed us to produce differentiated and modern wines, structured and complex, but elegant. Wines with marked authenticity and longevity: ‘pure Trás-os-Montes’!

VINIFICATION
Aging in French oak barrels for 24 months.

TASTING NOTES
Intense garnet color. On the nose, aromatic intensity with notes of coffee, spices and black berries. In the mouth also spicy in harmony with ripe black fruit, full, rich and complex. The polished tannins and good freshness give it excellent length and a vibrant and persistent aftertaste.

SERVING
Meat dishes, perfect with mirandesa steak, Trás-os-Montes-style feijoada, dried green beans, sausages such as salpicão, chouriça and alheira. Bísaro ham and cheese. Suitable for fine meats such as roast beef and cod.

VINIFICATION
Manual harvest with stemming. Must remains in contact with the skins during pre-fermentation maceration. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature, 9 months of aging in French oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES
Ruby color. On the elegant and fine nose, the floral profile and notes of red fruits and black berries form a very fresh, lightly toasted set with notes of coffee.
