【Product details】
This rare mask is a reproduction of the Kitoku-men, a traditional bugaku (court dance) mask originally created during the Kamakura period (13th–14th century). The original Kitoku-men is designated as an Important Cultural Property and is part of the treasured collection at Nara’s Todai-ji Temple. The Kitoku-men is used in the majestic Ō-no-Mai (King’s Dance), which features a warrior figure wearing a helmet and holding a spear, symbolizing strength and authority.
This reproduction is made using the traditional kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technique. The interior of the mask has a paper label with "Kitoku-men" written in Japanese and includes a stamp from the artist.
Due to its age, there are signs of wear, including scratches, scuffs, paint loss, and discoloration, as well as some cracks and chips in the lacquer. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition assessment.
Dimensions: approx. H 31.5 cm W 20.7 cm D 16 cm
