Transferred to the Museum of Ceramics in August 1995. Caldas Reina, ceramic center of the last 150 years has activity barrista tradition, possible origin in the Middle Ages.

The town originally called Caldas de Obidos, developed by the thermal hospital - built by D. Leonor, wife of King Juan II (1481-1495). The masters and manufacturers of Caldas da Rainha, from the 19th century, some of them currently represented in museums, ran small ceramic production industries, providing their pieces of clay at holidays and markets throughout the country. Caldas dishes, a mainly decorative genus of stoneware, has evolved over time and is mainly characterized by naturalistic reasons.

As a ceramist Manuel Mafra followers highlight António Alves da Cunha (1856-1941) and José Alves da Cunha (1849-1901). The first, with a high quality production. He was an expert in the execution of handmade flowers in clay. The second, represented in several international exhibitions, saw his work awarded in several medals and distinctions. He was also a notable follower of Bernard Palissy.
