【Product details】
This stunning natsume tea caddy from the Showa era features a breathtaking design of a bamboo grove under the Milky Way, skillfully executed in maki-e with nashiji, gold leaf accents, and delicate mother-of-pearl inlay. The bamboo, a symbol of resilience and strength, represents the ability to bend without breaking, while the Milky Way carries deep cultural significance in Japan, often associated with the legend of the star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi. This tale, celebrated during the Tanabata festival, embodies the themes of perseverance and reunion.
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to create intricate designs. Nashiji uses gold or silver flecks to produce a pear skin-like texture, enhancing the surface with shimmer and depth.
The original wooden box is signed and stamped by the artist, with the name "Masaru 勝."
The piece is in good condition with minimal signs of wear and a very small dents. Please refer to the photos for more details on the item's condition.
