Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother
- is Pink Floyd's fifth studio album, released on October 2, 1970.
Unlike some of their other albums, “Atom Heart Mother” does not follow a conceptual theme throughout. Instead, it contains a collection of various tracks that showcase the band's musical experimentation and development.
The title track “Atom Heart Mother Suite” takes up the entire first side of the album. It is a 23-minute composition divided into six parts and is one of Pink Floyd's longest pieces.
The suite features orchestral arrangements performed by the EMI Pops Orchestra under the direction of Ron Geesin.
The collaboration between Pink Floyd and Geesin resulted in a fusion of rock and orchestral music, creating a unique and ambitious sound.
The second side of the album contains individual tracks such as “If,” a gentle acoustic song with vocals from Roger Waters; “Summer '68,” written and sung by keyboardist Richard Wright; “Fat Old Sun,” a pastoral piece written and sung by David Gilmour; and "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast," a whimsical instrumental track with sound effects and snippets of conversation.
While "Atom Heart Mother" received mixed reviews upon its release, it has since gained something of a cult following among Pink Floyd fans.
The album marked a transitional period for the band, as they moved away from the psychedelic sound of their earlier works and towards the more complex and conceptual style seen in later albums such as "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here". was.
