URANIA / Bienne - Cal. 2, Swan-Neck-Reg. - 1901-1949

Large open face (Lepine) pocket watch with argentan case (diameter 53.5 mm) in very good condition, Switzerland (Biel/Bienne) ca. 1910.

Fine precision movement with Swiss lever escapement, Brequet balance spring, screw balance and swan-neck fine adjustment, 15 jewels, signed "Urania" on the barrel bridge and Urania brand symbol on the balance cock. Urania calibre 2 in best execution.

The Urania Watch Co. was a brand name of Goschler & Cie in Biel/Bienne from around 1895-1930. It produced high-quality pocket watches with in-house movements such as the Cal. 2 offered here.

Unsigned but numbered argentan / nickel silver case with dust cover, stamped ‘Nickel’, short for ‘Nickel silver’.

Immaculate enamel dial (no chips, no cracks, a barely visible hairline crack at 1 o'clock) with large Roman numerals, original blued hands in perfect condition. Crystal without scratches.

Overall very good condition, especially the dial and hands, the case has a barely noticeable dent on the back and minimal tarnishing, dust cover with some scratches.

Service history is unknown, but the movement runs with high accuracy (less than 30 sec. deviation per day in ‘crown up’ position), the power reserve is more than 35 hours.
