【Product details】
This exquisite Yoshino Shelf is a fine example of tea ceremony craftsmanship, created by the renowned Japanese artisan Nakamura Soetsu. Soetsu, born in 1932 in Ishikawa Prefecture, is a highly respected tea utensil maker. He began learning lacquer techniques from his father in 1946 and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft. In 1967, Nakamura received tea ceremony instruction from the late Master Nakao Souwa, which greatly influenced his work.
The Yoshino Shelf is a traditional small shelf used in the tea ceremony, particularly within the Urasenke school of tea. This Yoshino-dana reflects the favored design of Ennōsai, a significant tea master of the Urasenke school. The shelf is designed to be assembled when in use, allowing for flexibility and storage. It features a structure that can be altered seasonally, with paper door used in winter and reed screen in summer. The design ensures minimal warping, enhancing both functionality and beauty in the tea room setting.
Please note that the shelf shows signs of aging, including wear, light stains on the paper, small dents on the board surfaces and a small chip on the upper edge of the top board. Please refer to the photos for the condition.
