Västra Centralasien Bronssigill - med en signerad anteckning från professor W. G. Lambert (Utan reservationspris)

West central Asia Bronze Seal - with a signed note from Professor W. G. Lambert Circa 2000-1500 BC This has a flat round face and a back which rises to a stalk handle, which is broken off and missing. The design consists of a simple cross and the four quarters so created being filled with two inverted V's and two crescents. The rim is worn and the handle missing, but the design, though now under thick incrustation, appears to be well preserved. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert. Wilfred G. Lambert (1926–2011) was a prominent historian and archaeologist, specializing in Assyriology and Near Eastern Archaeology. Born in Birmingham, Lambert earned degrees in Classics and Oriental Languages from the University of Cambridge. Over three decades, he contributed significantly to deciphering cuneiform tablets, collaborating closely with the British Museum. Post-retirement, Lambert remained active in scholarly pursuits, notably identifying historical texts and contributing to projects like the Catalogue of the Western Asiatic Seals. Dimensions: 20mm x 18mm; weight 10g Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
