Persimonformad 柿子壶 - Yixing tekanna - Kina - Folkrepubliken Kina (1949 - nuvarande)
A nice Republic period Yixing teapot shaped like a persimmon 柿子壶. The persimmon teapot is a style created by many Yixing potters during the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China and later in the PROC. This teapot is designed to resemble a persimmon, an autumn fruit. The body of the teapot is round like a persimmon, with the lid forming the fruit's base. The teapot's body features a four-petal rib pattern, and the knob, spout, and handle are crafted to resemble nodules from old persimmon tree branches.
This teapot dates from the 1960s and features engraving on both sides, depicting a inscription 百苍斋放(bǎi cāng zhāi fàng)and a saying by Mao Zhedong, motifs that where common during the Cultural Revolution. During this period, persimmon teapots from the 1960s and 1970s underwent slight changes in shape. The early teapots had a fuller form, while later designs became more round, flat, and stretched.
The saying by Mao Zhedong reads:
虚心使人进步,骄傲使人落后 (xū xīn shǐ rén jìn bù, jiāo ào shǐ rén luò hòu)
'Modesty helps one forward, whereas conceit makes one lag behind.'
