Joan Rivers biography : American comedian and talk show host Joan Rivers (1933–2014) was a pioneer among women in entertainment, becoming the first woman to host a late-night talk show. Brash and abrasive, Rivers adapted the outrageous comedic style of her main inspiration, comedian Lenny Bruce, into material that embarrassed audiences and nearly always made them laugh throughout her long career. Comedienne Joan Rivers was known for her appearances on 'The Tonight Show', making a Grammy Award nominated comedy album and launching a syndicated daytime talk show, among several other projects Joan Rivers loved jewelry. That much was clear; when you think of her, you think of the bold glitzy statement necklaces or bejeweled fingers. Her former husband, Edgar Rosenberg, was a connoisseur of fine gemstones and indulged her passion during their marriage. Joan's personal collection included everything from a necklace of Fabergé eggs (which once belonged to Queen Marie of Romania) to a brooch (huge red tourmaline encircled by a diamond snake) given by Edward VII to his mistress. In 1990, she launched the Joan Rivers Classics Collection on QVC, after feeling outraged by the price of costume jewelry: “Should well-made costume jewelry be expensive?
