A fine and unusual bi-folio miniature from a Quran, copied in the late C17th, and scribed in elegant naskhi script. The left folio consists of 12 lines of scripture, the right of 10 with an illuminated Surah, (Chapter heading), in white Thuluth script with arabesque decorations within a gold cartouche, breaking the script. Simple gold 'aya' mark the verses and there is some diacritical marking in red guiding the reader. This would have been a personal Quran carried around by the owner and is is super condition despite use.
This bi-folio contains the final verses of Chapter 41, Fussilat (Verses perfectly explained) which rebukes pagans from turning away from the truth, and the header and v1-6 of the Meccan Chapter 42, Ash-Shura, (Consultation) which talks about conducting affairs by mutual consultation.
The scribe is unknown, but he had an exquisite hand with great attention to detail.
