Carl Geyling (1814-1880) - Landscape study

Study of a pit at Annaberg by Mariazell (Austria) was executed in 1841 by famous Austrian landscape and glass painter Carl (Franz Carl Michael) Geyling (1841 - Vienna - 1880). Geyling Carl, glass and landscape painter, son of Andreas Geyling . Studied at the Vienna Academy and was landscape painter ( oil painting " Danube area " , 1834). After a stay in Italy ( 1839) , he was commissioned to replace in Laxenburg the panes of older glass doors through landscapes on glass ; for this purpose he undertook numerous experiments in the art of stained glass, which already fell into oblivion , and founded in 1841 later became known beyond Austria´s borders the stained glass company ( company Geyling ). In 1843 he was awarded with a medal for the production of Mousselin- and tip jar, 1846, he was commissioned to make three stained-glass windows by cartons of Ludwig Schnorr for Landhaus Chapel in Vienna. In his workshop he created among other stained glass for the parish church of St. Laurenz Scots Fields ( 1856), the St. Stephen´s Cathedral ( 1858-1879 ) and the Votive Church ; minor works , he led the council session hall of the Old Town Hall, from the Malteser- , Altlerchenfelder , Deutschordens- and Lazaristen churches. Inscription: on the backside of the stretcher - artist´s original label, titled, dated and signed in German: " Silbergruben am Annaberg bei Mariazell, gemalt in 1841 von C.Geyling". Technique: oil on paper, laid down on new canvas, splendid original period gilt frame. Measurements: image w 19 3/4" x h 15" (50 x 38 cm); framed w 26 3/4" x h 22 1/8" (68 x 56 cm). Condition: in very good condition.
