A.M. (XIX-XX), Attributed to - Serene Pastures: Study of a cow

A particularly fine pencil drawing, possibly by the renowned Dutch artist Anton Mauve, a prominent figure of the Hague School. This drawing depicts a rustic scene of a cow peacefully standing in a lush field. With a masterful drawing technique, the maker perfectly captured the essence of rural life and the serene beauty of nature. The drawing has been laid down on board, elegantly framed with a premium passepartout, and protected by UV-blocking, non-reflective museum glass. -------- Anton Mauve (1838–1888) was a leading Dutch realist painter and a key figure of the Hague School. A cousin by marriage to Vincent van Gogh, Mauve greatly influenced him. Renowned for his mastery of silvery light, Mauve's works often depict rural scenes, highlighting the harmony between humans and nature. Born in Zaandam, Mauve moved to Haarlem at 16, apprenticing under cattle and horse painters. He painted en plein air with Paul Gabriel and spent time in Oosterbeek. In 1871, he established a studio in The Hague and taught Van Gogh. By 1885, he had moved to Laren. Mauve's work gained wide recognition and remains highly sought after. This study might be from his early career. Mauve's works are featured in major museums worldwide, including the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam; Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and Musée d'Orsay, Paris. ⦿ Signed l.r.: A.M. ⦿ Dimensions approx.: 10.7 x 18 cm without frame, 27,5x36 cm with frame ⦿ Condition: Excellent, normal signs of age appropriate to its period. ⦿ Period: Late 19th century. ⦿ Please note: the passepartout, glass, and frame come as a gift and should be treated as such. ⦿ Safe ✓ fast ✓ eco-friendly ✓ tracked ✓ insured shipping, from Germany or free pick-up. ⦿ Please reuse or recycle the packaging.
