Born in Brussels in 1945, Gijsbert Hanekroot began his professional journey as a photographer in 1969 and contributed to various magazines and newspapers throughout the 1970s. His career as a photojournalist coincided with the rise and expansion of the rock scene and he skillfully captured this golden era of musical history - and many of its most legendary icons.
Gijsbert aimed to create images that showed the human side of the musicians. He sought to convey a deeper truth about his subjects through portraits that are natural and intimate, relaxed and sincere. His work is exhibited by galleries in different parts of the world, such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, Madrid, London, Bologna and Naarden in the Netherlands.
