Okimono in avorio marino, scolpito da un singolo blocco, raffigurante Jurōjin, uno dei sette saggi della buona fortuna nella tradizione giapponese, conosciuto come il dio della longevità e della saggezza.
Jurojin, noto per il suo aspetto distinto che include una lunga barba bianca, un viso sereno e un'espressione benevola, è raffigurato come un anziano saggio mentre tiene un bastone nella mano destra, simbolo di saggezza e sostegno. Nella mano sinistra, Jurojin tiene un ventaglio, simbolo di longevità e salute.
Indossa abiti tradizionali riccamente decorati con incisioni e motivi che riflettono la sua elevata posizione spirituale.
Firma incisa sotto la base.

La parola "Okimono" deriva dal giapponese e significa letteralmente “Oggetto da collocare” composta dai kanji "oki" (置き), che significa collocare e "mono" (物), che significa oggetto.
Queste sculture decorative sono state particolarmente apprezzate nel periodo Meiji verso la fine del XIX secolo, grazie alla forte richiesta proveniente dai paesi occidentali.
Gli scultori e gli artigiani giapponesi avevano già dimostrato la loro abilità nella lavorazione di materiali come le lacche, i bronzi e i netsuke, grazie alla loro eccellente capacità nell'intaglio e nell'intarsio. Successivamente, alcuni di loro si sono dedicati a scolpire l’avorio, corno e blocchi di legno, bosso in particolare.
Tra le scuole di scultura più importanti ricordiamo la Tokyo School fondata da Ishikawa Komei, nonché importanti scultori come Shimamura Shunmei e Yoshida Homei.
Questo lotto è conforme con le nuove normative della Comunità Europea per il commercio degli avori lavorati prima del 1947.
