Very rare Victorian solid oak apothecary chest / box / cabinet with gilded brass escutcheon, a hinged lift up lid enclosing green Moroccan leather lined fitted interior with two pockets. Includes 15 clearly labelled glass bottles of varying shapes and sizes, instruction on the use of capsicum plasters and periodate crystals, breast plasters, two palette knives (one mother of pearl) and a set of scales with weights. It is very rare to come across such a well stocked apothecary box, as if left behind by a time travelling doctor! Origin: England Date: 1880's 2316 g 12.5 cm tall 23 cm wide 14.5 cm deep Good antique condition. Scratches and wear to lid appropriate to age and use; two hairline cracks to base; wear to leather pocket inside; wear to leather inset drawers; some general scratches to the exterior; wear to bottles and ephemera. Most of the bottles are Victorian, but there are several later date examples.
