Fantastic, a-typically-shaped, tall wooden mizuya’dansu 水屋箪笥 (kitchen cabinet) in a single section.
This piece has been fully restored, cleaned, and waxed.
Crafted of indigenous sugi (cedar) wood varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’.
The cabinet features two sets of smooth-running sliding doors, each adorned with blind thumb grips and unique lattice work; the top doors feature a checkered pattern, while the bottom doors display horizontal lines. Inside, the shelving is strategically placed at varying heights for versatile storage solutions. The base is elegantly designed with an ‘accolade’-shaped cut-out.
Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century).
