Luneville, France, became a popular center for faience ( earthenware ) production beginning in 1730 when Jaques Chambrette built a pottery factory in the city. Following Chambrette’s death, Sebastian Keller purchased the company in 1786 and the Keller family controlled the for the next 137 years. Luneville is one of thé most famous French pottery manufacturers. In 1900 there were around 1.100 employees. The factory’s products had a world wide reputation and participated successfully in various fields of art and exhibitions. The former pottery factory in Luneville stopped production in 1981 and only the factory of Saint Clément is still operational and produces a very small production. It lost its popularity for the French Bourgeoisie families around the 1920, but has recently had a popular resurgence. I suppose the dinner services were put away in the magnificent wedding armoires for a rainy day. We have taken lots of photos for your perusal. I have collected Luneville for the past 30 years and it is time for me to part with it and for somebody to take it over, love and cherish it and continue to collect these magnificent pieces.
