The Rolleicord III is a twin reflex camera, produced from 1950 to 1953. It is a medium format film camera that takes 120 film and gives 12 6×6 images per roll. The lens that captures the images (the “taking lens”) is a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 75mm f3.5. The camera comes with a Compur-Rapid shutter that offers shutter speeds of 1 second to 1/500 second (+ bulb mode). It is a leaf shutter lens meaning you can sync flash at up to 1/500 when connecting via the PC X-sync port.
Body: Rolleicord III - Model K3B
Color: black & chrome
Shutter: Compur-Rapid
Shutter speeds: 1 sec to 1/500 sec + Bulb.
Film winding: winding knob
Flash: X-sync port/socket
Viewing/finder lens: Heidosmat 75mm f/3.2
Taking lens: Schneider Kreuznach Xenar 75mm f/3.5
Film type: 120 film. 6 x 6 cm
Size: 142 x 99 x 97 mm
Weight: 830g
This example is in very good working condition. I've tested with unprocessed, dummy, 120 film to ensure the transport functions properly. All the shutter speeds plus Bulb seem accurate, although not test with an instrument. Flash sync with flash units from the 1980s-1990s have been tested, and works properly at any shutter speed, including 1/500 second. That means a thyristor-controlled flash can bring automatic exposure. The focus screen is impressively bright for this vintage, and very usuable. The focus is also very smooth, as is the transport.
Both lenses are very clear, with no signs of fungus, haze, scratches, or polishing marks. There is--as always--some dust inside but not enough to affect the image quality, which should be outstanding considering the reputation of Schneider-Kreunach lenses. All photos of the camera were taken with a Schneider-Kreunach Xenon 50mm f1.9 lens from the 1960s. Many reviewers consider the Xenar to be at least equal to the Carl Zeiss Tessar.
Included is the original leather case, in good and very usable condition. Also included is an original Franke & Heidecke (Rollei) yellow (gelb-hell) filter.
The potential for high-quality images with great depth and vintage character far exceeds any 35mm camera. In fact, many consider the image quality to exceed the highest resolution full-frame digital cameras, in its own way.
If the camera is to be shipped, it will be packed very carefully in a hard cardboard carton with plenty of padding.
Available for pick-up in Stockholm, by appointment.
