"Naga Morsarang" - Medicine Horn
This artifact from the Batak culture of Sumatra, Indonesia, dates back to the late 20th century. Made from water buffalo horn, the horn can be detached from the carved wooden section. It is believed that this piece was likely used in shamanic rituals performed by a datu (local shaman) to store protective and medicinal substances known as "pagar."
Carved Details: The upper section of the piece is crafted from wood and intricately hand-carved with symbols inspired by Batak mythology, including figures and mythological animals believed to provide spiritual protection.
Original Cord: The horn is connected by an original, old cord that has not been replaced, maintaining its authenticity and historical value.
Condition: The condition is fair considering the age of the piece. Some areas may show minor loss of color or small wooden flakes due to its age. The piece has not undergone any abrasive cleaning processes to preserve its original state. Please examine all photos carefully for details on the condition.
Additional Note on the Horn: Light has been directed externally to demonstrate that it can pass through the hollow section of the horn, highlighting its empty interior.
