Hand-coloured engraving by Francois-Nicolas Martinet originates from Comte de Buffon's superb work ”Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux”, published in Paris from 1765 to 1783.
François-Nicolas Martinet (1731–1800) was a French engraver and illustrator known for his detailed and accurate illustrations of birds and other natural subjects. He contributed to several significant natural history works of the 18th century, including Buffon's Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, where his engravings helped popularize ornithology in France.
