Very interessant publication , directed by K. Fukuda , because it brings together talentuous and masters of Ukiyo-e ( Woodcut) generally put in a second plan, but some are major artists and recognized now in exhibitions or auctions.
Maruyama Okyo ( 1733-1775) has influenced Modern Art and artists like Picasso or Modigliani
Chokosei Eisho ( 18th century ) a disciple of Utamaro , his works are considered like masterpieces
Utagawa Kuniyoshi ( 1798-1861) a master of Nishiki-e ( Color woodcut) , one of the artist who has gone the furthest in erotism ( looks like sometimes pornographic scenes)
Shingenobu Yamagawa, disciple of Hokusai ( 1782-1832) , talentuous engraver and painter, his works are very sought after by the collectors
Katsushika Shunsho ( 1787-1867) a master with Hokusai & Utamaro
Keisai Eisen ( 1790-1848) also a master ,
A lot of works are very few known , so this book is captivating
More large than high, 30,5 x 23 cm hardback with blue cloth cover , Gold letters embossed, 211 pages with commentaries on the authors and a complete index of the works presented at the end.
The book and slipcase are excellent, you will note a small bump at the same place on each ( photos)
