Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an American painter of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, known for his neo-expressionist works filled with cultural, social, and political references. He started as a graffiti artist in 1970s New York under the pseudonym SAMO, before establishing himself as one of the most influential artists of his generation. Basquiat stood out for his critique of racism, African American identity, and inequality, themes he expressed through a primitive and visceral style, using symbols, texts, and images that often incorporated historical and cultural figures.

As for his work Popeye Has No Pork in His Diet (1982), it is a painting that, like many of his other creations, mixes childhood imagery and cultural references with subversive messages.
