The work “Antar” (1985) by Jean-Michel Basquiat is a characteristic example of his expressive style, where he combines figurative images, words, and symbols. This piece reflects his fascination with history, African American culture, and social injustices. Basquiat uses vivid colours and energetic strokes, often with a style reminiscent of primitive art, to express himself viscerally. The images in “Antar” evoke elements of ancient Egypt, African culture, and references to Black identity.
Basquiat sought to highlight historical or literary figures related to resistance or the strength of Black identity, such as Antar, a pre-Islamic poet-warrior who was the son of a slave and fought against racism. This reflects his concern with racial issues and his identification with marginalized figures.
Basquiat often worked obsessively and quickly, with jazz or hip-hop music in the background. In fact, the artist would frequently paint multiple works simultaneously, often leaving elements unfinished, which has been interpreted as part of his spontaneous creative process.

Dear Sir, Buying online always has some risks, that is why it is my policy that if the client is not happy for whatever reason, always can return the product in the first two weeks. You are right, this is not a litho, it is just an offset print (poster) of good quality, open edition of course. Maybe the word “Print” in English is misleading and has a wider meaning. Nevertheless, it is normal practice to contact the seller first and find a solution before writing a final opinion on the Buyer’s Review. I’m open to it. Best wishes.

I’m sorry for your disappointment. Print had mild imperfections as indicated, not interfering with image and not visible with proper framing. Over 20 years old print. Nevertheless, it is my policy that if the client is not happy, for whatever reason, can always return the print. Please let me know if that is the case. It is normal practice to contact the seller before complaining in the Buyer’s Review in order to explain the situation, we can always find a solution. Best regards.
