It is a compilation of songs from Deep Purple's Mark III line-up, which consisted of Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Jon Lord and Ian Paice.

Deep Purple's Mark III lineup was active from 1973 to 1976 and released three studio albums: "Burn" (1974), "Stormbringer" (1974) and "Come Taste the Band" (1975). "24 Carat Purple" contains a selection of songs from these albums, including hits such as "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star" and "Burn."
