Rare Seljuk Bronze Tripod Dish
Circa 12th century AD
This interesting bronze circular tray is supported by three short legs, forming a stable tripod base. Its flat, outward-everted rim adds a decorative touch. The interior of the tray features a central roundel with intricate decoration.
The Seljuk Dynasty, a medieval Turkic empire spanning the 11th to 13th centuries, originated in Central Asia and expanded westward, notably securing Anatolia after the pivotal Battle of Manzikert in 1071. Governed by a centralized authority under a sultan, the Seljuks became patrons of Islamic art and culture, fostering advancements in literature, architecture, and the sciences. Renowned for military prowess, they significantly influenced the Middle East and Anatolia's geopolitical landscape.
