This large book is richly and beautifully illustrated with tissue-guarded frontispiece ‘The Bab Zuweyleh’, title page printed in black and red, 5 full-page steel engravings on heavy card stock, one vignette, and over 130 wood engravings.

Published by J.S. Virtue and Co., Limited, London, c.1880. Publishers’ original full leather hardboards with blind embossed gilt patterning to both boards. Spine with five raised bands decorated in gilt, lettered in gilt within compartments two and four. Brilliant gilt all page edges.

Condition
The book is beautifully bound, designed and illustrated. External covers in nice shape, worn at corners, and edges, with some repairs to external joints of front cover. Internally the book is in fine condition. No names or inscriptions. Pages are very clean, with occasional scattered spots on the margin of few pages. Inner hinges are very good. Pages are tightly held at the gutter, and edged in gilt. The text is clean and plates in very nice condition (Please see pictures).
