A single folio from a Quran dated 1575. Large form with leaf size 32x21cm and framed scripture 23x14. The leaf captures the whole of Chapter 87 The Most High (Al-A’la) where the Prophet is reassured of God’s support, and the Surah of Chapter 88 together with v1-2. This is a fine and beautifully illuminated leaf with two Surah headings marking the Chapters. The script is a crisp nashki in black. The whole script is surrounded by multiple frame lines, with a prominent thick gold frame in the middle. A fine arabesque Juz medallion in gold and celestial blue, sitting in the left margin, marks the 5th division of Chapter 87. Multiple 'circular aya in gold with 5 equidistant blue dots on the circumference nark the verses within the scripture. Interestingly, there are no red diacritical (devotional markings) to provide guidance to the devotee. There is some commentary in the left margin next to the Chapter heading.
