Known as 'koubelii' or 'boukalii' this bracelet type was in existence by the 17th century. They became popular during the Ottoman period and were worn in different parts of Bulgaria. This bracelet represents one of the most popular bracelets in the country.
Pair of bracelets with an open end, horseshoe-shaped. They have side elements with a projecting hemispherical form. The central part imitates twisted wires, maybe of medieval inspiration.
Provenance: Purchased by the current owner to an English gallery (M.A.C.; 1990s).
