A black lacquered circular wooden hokai 行器 (covered portable food containers) of very high quality.
Of traditional shape, the cylindrical shape is accentuated by ribbed sides and elevated by four elegant spreading feet.
The interior is also coated with glossy black lacquer.
Period: Japan – 19th century (Late Edo period/Early Meiji period).
Hokai boxes have been utilized in various ways in Japan throughout tradition.
Their prominent purpose is as portable food containers for travel, akin to lunch boxes.
Lacquerware, known for its insect-repelling and moisture-resistant properties,
helps preserve the food for extended periods.

Glass was broken, probably already in Japan as the broken pieces do not add up to a full glass pane. Photo of the broken pane was sent to Catawiki.

I'm sorry it broke. I packed it so it wouldn't break. I can only think that it was dropped during shipping. How can we solve this problem? Is there a company in your country that will replace glass? This item is insured. First, please check the packaging and take photos that show the broken glass. Then you need to take the broken item to your local post office to prove that it is broken.
