RARE - Ancient pottery fragment of a vessel depicting a snake (Serpent).
Canaanite, Biblical Middle Bronze Age, 1850 – 1550 BC
Time of the Patriarchs
Dimensions:
Length: 10 cm
Height: 6.5 cm
Height on stand: 10 cm
Condition: Good condition as shown.
The snake “Serpent” motif was widely used in Canaanite art of the second millennium BC and was especially common as decoration of jar handles
The free, almost realistic representation on our vessel fragment is rather unusual. The snake is shown as if crawling on the body of the jar and climbing the shoulder with head perched on the lip.
Found in Samaria (Biblical name Shormron) north of Jerusalem, Holy Land prior to 1970.
Beautifully mounted on a custom made plexiglass disply stand of museum quality (Included)
