The design symbolizes completeness and the prosperous continuation of descendants, making it an auspicious choice for samurai. The tsuba is crafted from iron, featuring a raised rim and an intricate wave motif carved into the metal. A single bird, delicately inlaid in gold, appears perched among the waves, symbolizing resilience and grace amidst life's challenges. The tsuba bears the Umetada signature and showcases intricate wave patterns in relief along its rim. A plover is depicted on a rock, beautifully rendered in gold inlay. In Japanese symbolism, waves represent the strength and persistence of nature, while the plover is often associated with overcoming adversity and safe travel. The openings are lined with brass, adding a touch of refinement to this already elegant piece. Some signs of wear and rust are visible, which add to the character and historical value of the tsuba.
