Casa Emanuele di Mirafiore: 2005 Barolo Riserva, 2010 & 2012 x2 Barolo Paiagallo - Piemont DOCG - 4 Sticle (0.75L)

Casa E. Di Mirafiore is a historic Italian wine producer located at Serralunga d'Alba's esteemed Fontanafredda estate in Piedmont. It produces a range of traditional Langhe wines from organically-grown native grape varieties including Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The primary focus is Barolo; the estate produces two single-vineyard cru Barolos from Lazzarito and Paiagallo, as well as a Barolo Riserva, aged 36 months in barrel and 12 months in bottle. The Nebbiolo grapes for each wine grow from Serralunga d'Alba's limestone, grey marl, and sandy soils and are picked by hand at harvest. The grapes ferment in stainless steel, then undergo 30 to 40 days of maceration on the skins. Mirafiore also produces Barbera d'Alba and Langhe Nebbiolo, both aged 12 months in barrel and six in bottle. A Dolcetto d'Alba is aged six months in cask and three months in bottle. History Son of the first King of Italy, Emanuele Alberto, the Count of Mirafiore, established the wine business in 1878. It was formed from estate holdings in Fontanafredda and Barolo. Combining innovation with leverage of the prestige of his name, Emanuele distributed his Barolo to domestic and foreign markets from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Emanuele Alberto's son, Gastone, was a less successful leader of of the business. After battling phylloxera, the brand vanished in the depression of the 1930s, and the 101-hectare (250-acre) Fontanafredda estate changed ownership. In 2008, Oscar Farinetti and Luca Baffigo Filangieri, owners of Eataly, purchased a large portion of the Fontanafredda estate and revived the Casa E. Di Mirafiore label, at the same time taking ownership of Fontanafredda, one of Piedmont's largest wineries. The estate gained organic certification for the 2018 vintage.
