This elegant copper vase, crafted by the esteemed metalwork artist Marutani Tandou (1900-1984), hails from the Showa period. Marutani Tandou was born in 1900 in Asakusa, Tokyo, and was a prominent figure in the world of metalworking. He studied under Yamamoto Sumitami and Yamamoto Azumi, and was later introduced to Katori Hotsuma.

Marutani Tandou gained recognition after winning a third prize at the Tokyo Industrial Arts Exhibition in 1926 with his tobacco set. He continued to receive numerous awards throughout his career and served as a judge for the Nitten Exhibition post-World War II. In 1975, he became a member of Nitten, a prestigious art organization. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 84.

This vase bears Marutani Tandou's signature on the bottom, confirming its authenticity. It shows signs of wear, patina, and usage consistent with age. Please refer to the photos for its condition. This piece is a fine example of Japanese metalwork and an excellent addition to any collection.
