Vintage „Art Deco” Armchairs by Prof. Gyula Kaesz, 1930s, Hungary
Very rare pieces from the late 1930s by Ludwig Kozma’s colleague, Prof. Gyula Kaesz who is one of the most important Hungarian designer.
The upholstery was replaced in the 70s according to the fashion of the time „Vintage, excellent and chemically cleaned".
Original Shellak polish and epeda rings. Excellent collector condition with beautiful patina.
Solid walnut wood and completely walnut veneered frame, with curves typical of Gyula Kaesz, cross bracing and the slatted, split backrest.
These armchairs are not mass-produced products, only 2-10 of them are made to order.
Gyula Kasz from 1919 to 1952, he was a teacher at the School of Applied Arts (later: College), then between 1952 and 1958 he was the director of the College of Applied Arts. He created the department of industrial design. His editorial activity is also significant: he was the editor of the trade journal The Furnitures, between 1935 and 1938. He also participated in the editing of New Architecture and Tér és Forma.
His pieces can also be found in the German edition of Innen-Dekoration books as Profs. Julius Kaesz.
