【Product details】
This extraordinary white flat vase by Kazuo Yagi (1918-1979) is a bold deconstruction of the traditional flat vase form, elevated into a modern design masterpiece. The piece bears Yagi's seal mark, and the inside of the wooden box is inscribed with his son's signature and seal. This serves as certification by Yagi Akira, the eldest son of Yagi Kazuo, attesting that the work is indeed created by Yagi Kazuo.
Yagi Kazuo was a renowned Japanese ceramic artist known for his innovative and experimental approach to pottery. In his early career, he was influenced by Picasso and Klee, and his works often featured abstract patterns in white glaze, utilizing techniques like iron inlay and scraping.
Later, he created asymmetrical and distorted flat bottles, rejecting the traditional functionality of pottery and paving the way for "object-oriented ceramics" with his 1954 exhibition "Mr. Samsa's Stroll." Throughout his career, Yagi experimented with various styles, including unglazed firing, Shigaraki ware, and black pottery, constantly evolving his artistic expression and creating poetic and witty works.
This vase is in excellent condition, as shown in the photographs provided. A true masterwork by one of Japan's most innovative ceramic artists.
