Japanese Samurai sword Katana Miyoshi Nagamichi 8th Generation Aizu Kotetsu NBTHK Hozon

Miyoshi Nagamichi was born in Aizu in 1620.
He was also called Aizu Masamune and Aizu Kotetsu. His workmanship is somewhat similar to Kotetsu and is well known for its sharpness.
The Miyoshi Nagamichi lineage maintained its position as the master blacksmith of Aizu for ten generations (Meiji era). This work was made by the eight Miyoshi Nagamichi, whose given name was Miyoshi Gonpachi and was commonly known as Miyoshi Toushirou. He was adopted by the seventh Nagamichi and succeeded him as the eighth master of the family. Later, he was given the title of master swordsmith by the lord of Aizu.

According to the book (Kaihou Kenjyaku) published by Yamada Asaemon in the late Edo period, a blade forged by Nagamichi was ranked as Saijyo Owazamono, the highest of all the rankings. Asaemon was hired by the Edo government as an expert on Tameshigiri, or testing cutting. And in this book, he judged how sharp Japanese swords forged by prestigious swordsmiths were.
Because of the sharpness of the blades forged by Nagamichi, he was often called Aizu Kotesu or Aizu Masamune to appreciate his craftsmanship. Kotetsu and Masamune are also highly renowned swordsmiths.

Koshirae is wonderful the mounting is openwork dragon tsuba and has fine details.
