Drawn on location by David Roberts (1796-1864) on April 6th, 1839 (this date is engraved on the plate) during the artist's trip to the Holy Land and surrounding area during 1838- 1839. Published in London by F.C.Moon on 1st November 1942 (the date is printed on the margins) in the iconic monumental work: David Roberts, "The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt & Nubia ", one of the most desirable and famous travel plate books in the 19th century.

Some age-toning on left bottom margins, Otherwise very clean and crisp paper condition with excellent imprint and stunning colors. International certificate of authenticity will be supplied. -
Depicted is a realistic view towards the city of Bethlehem in the Holy Land, with the compound of the "Church of the Nativity" in the left background. "The Church of the Nativity" was initially built in Byzantine times over the cave venerated as the birthplace of Jesus according to Christian tradition.
The Church is an important place of pilgrimage for Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Christians. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve is transmitted from here by television world-wide. -
