Leão 獅子 - Bronze - 津田永寿 Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001) - Japão - Período Shōwa (1926-1989)
This is a bronze work by Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001) called " 獅子 Lion ".
This is a dynamic figurine with finely textured muscular skin, as if it could pounce at any moment.
Tsuda Eiju mainly creates vases, but occasionally creates animal works. This is one of those rare works.
Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001) studied under the famous court painter Tsuda Shinobu (1875-1946) and was considered his successor. Tsuda was selected for the Japan Art Exhibition (Nitten) many times, and won the grand prize in 1962. Tsuda Eiju is considered the most influential Japanese bronze caster of the late 20th century. Eiju is known mainly for his bronze vases, but animal themes are also popular themes for this artist.
There is an engraving of "Eiju" on the abdomen.
The original box is large compared to the work.
It seems that there was probably a pedestal, but this time we will only be giving you the lion and the box.
