The name comes from Negoro-ji Temple in Wakayama Prefecture. Here in Kii Province, Ichijo-san Daidenpoin Negoro-ji Temple (present-day Negoro, Iwade City, Wakayama Prefecture), various lacquerwares were made, mainly for daily use by thousands of monks from the Kamakura period to the Muromachi period.
