Danny Whitten, Billy Talbot, and Ralph Molina had come together in 1963 in the LA doo-wop group Danny & The Memories before migrating to San Francisco and becoming The Psyrcle, with changes in lineup and music style, before moving back to LA and evolving into the psychedelic folk-rock band The Rockets. Neil Young recruited Whitten, Talbot, and Molina to be his backing band in 1969 and re-named them Crazy Horse.
